Today's devotion is dedicated to my best friend.

Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.
– James 5:15

As men and women of God, it is important that we have someone to whom we are accountable. It doesn’t always have to be a pastor or minister, but it also cannot just be one of your buddies who just think it’s okay to do whatever you want to do. Accountability partners should be people who love God first and who love you and want what’s best for you. It should be someone you respect and someone will always be honest with you and tell you the truth in love. An accountability partner must be trustworthy, compassionate, loving, and wise. They should be able to listen, give wise counsel, be honest, and be loyal.

You see, none of us can live this life on our own. We were made to be a part of a family – GOD’S FAMILY. We are to confess our sins to each other and pray for each other so that we can not only be healed physically, but so that we can be healed spiritually as well. When we confess our sins to an accountability partner, they are able to pray with us and help us repent. Not only that, but being accountable to someone means also that you don’t have to wait until you actually sin to go to them. You can go to them and for wise counsel so that you do not fall into temptation. Accountability partners also pray for you always to cover you spiritually.

When the bible talks about confessing your sins to someone, it is not talking about putting yourself on blast so that you can be put to shame. It is so that you are not alone. It is to help you repent. It is to help you to keep from sinning. And when we are told to pray for each other, it is because there is power in prayer – power to heal, deliver, and set free. If you are not accountable to anyone right now, ask God to show you someone. We cannot do this on our own. We need each other. Let’s help each other live the lives we were called to live.

Remember, all scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. - 2 Timothy 3:16
